Happy Friday! Before we dive into our recent Herculean Quest, we wanted to remind you to preorder this year’s Hanging Lantern Review and sign up to attend our Reading + Release Party on June 7th! Now in its 9th year, you will not want to miss our middle and high school’s poetry, non-fiction and fiction literature.
The results are in! Our recent all school, student led fundraiser, titled the Herculean Quest, raised over $8,750 to support our school. As a reminder, our annual fundraiser raises money for different areas of our school community and this year all proceeds will be going towards our SLOCA classrooms. There were 12 ‘quests’ to jump start fundraising ideas, based around SLOCA character traits. These were:
1. Organize a food drive or donate to Loaves & Fishes as a STEWARD of your community.
2. Show HUMILITY by washing the cars of your relatives or neighbors.
3. Show your INTEGRITY and volunteer at a local animal shelter.
4. Practice RESPONSIBILITY by mowing a neighbor’s lawn or helping them with weeding/gardening.
5. COURAGEOUSLY hike to the top of Madonna Mountain or Bishop’s Peak.
6. Be a good CITIZEN by taking out the trash cans in your neighborhood and putting them back after trash pickup.
7. Show RESPECT for the environment and pick up trash on the beach or at a park.
8. DILIGENTLY spend time creating a special art piece for someone special.
9. Send cards of GRATITUDE to local veterans, police officers and firefighters.
10. Use your RESOURCEFULNESS to solve a challenging scavenger hunt organized by your parent.
11. Perform a random act of KINDNESS and bake cookies for a friend or neighbor.
12. Show your RESILIENCE and walk on the beach from Morro Rock to the Pier.
Some families shared with us how they went about completing their Herculean Quests.
Thank you to all of the families that participated and raised money for our classrooms! If you have any photos or quests that you would like to share with us, please email [email protected] to share! We would love to have them.
