It’s nearly the end of the year! I (Wei) have been feeling the impact of the longer days of sunshine and desire to be outside in our home days. Hang in there! Today we have more from some of our wonderful sponsors, Movement Arts Center and Main Street Small Animal Hospital. Enjoy learning about them and their businesses.
Your name and the name of your business:
- Maartje and Ryan Lawrence | SLO Movement Arts Center
- Ryan Ehlinger DVM | Main Street Small Animal Hospital
Tell us about your business. What services does it provide?
- SLO Movement Arts Center: To inspire a lifelong interest in the performing arts, create ballet dancers of a recognized caliber, and develop model young individuals by encouraging commitment, dedication, and the sustained pursuit of excellence in the art of dance.
- Main Street: We are a full-service veterinary hospital providing compassionate care to canine and feline patients of San Luis Obispo county. We offer a range of services from wellness related care to the diagnosis and management of various illnesses seen in our four-legged friends. We have a full in house lab, digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound unit, dental suite, and surgery suite. We have 3 full-time doctors supported by a kind and fun-loving team. We take our time to partner with our clients to make sure we are offering the best possible care to each patient. We approach our day based on our 3 core principles; professionalism, integrity, and respect!
Briefly share how your business started?
- SLO Movement Arts Center: We moved from the Netherlands to grow our family in San Luis Obispo and we felt compelled to bring Art and beauty to this community. And a European style conservatory and productions to inspire the future dancers and audiences of this lovely community…
- Main Street: We were started in 1988 when the small house on Main Street was converted into a veterinary hospital.
Why have you chosen to sponsor SLOCA?
- SLO Movement Arts Center: We have 3 very happy kids attending SLOCA this year and we have had many, many clients that attend SLOCA. We always enjoy the creativity, communication skills, and knowledge in the students we share!
- Main Street: My children attend SLOCA. We love the school and the committed families that make up our community!
How do you set yourself apart from other similar businesses?
- SLO Movement Arts Center: We are the only program on the central coast that offers a Conservatory dance program, which means dancers commit to several hours of training and experiences depending on their age and ability, to receive the best, most full round and beautiful dance and Arts experience/training. Just like SLOCA. We are a school but then for dance… And many alumni go on to colleges and/or professional schools after leaving us. And many others will have grown a lifelong love for the Arts.
- Main Street: We know that to provide great care we need to be excellent communicators, provide thoughtful options for each case, and treat people and their pets the way we would want to be treated if we were in their shoes. This sounds simple but is not typical in the world of healthcare for people or pets.
We would also like to thank our other sponsors who have generously supported our school this year –

I cannot say enough wonderful things about both these businesses, as my daughter was fortunate to dance at SLOMAC for several years, and Dr. Ehlinger and his team at Main Street have been our vets for decades now. If I could rate them: 5 stars all the way!
