Are you ready for August 29th? For the next couple of weeks, we will be doing a little Back to School series to ease our way back into the school year. I (Wei) know as a parent it takes time to strengthen those vocal chords for all of the reading aloud, and our family has started to reach for those summer reads in the evenings instead of our usual twilight games. If you haven’t ordered your curriculum, the Den is open Monday – Thursday 9am to 2pm.
To kick off this series, we at Down Home thought we would go back to the very beginning – the Trivium “Taco” – and why our classical school is comprised of three stages, Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric.
Grammar – First, a student learns the grammar, or fundamentals, of the concept or skill being learned in 1st through 4th grades.
Logic – After mastering the grammar stage, the student is able to fit the concepts together logically in the logic stage in 5th through 8th grades.
Rhetoric – Lastly, the student is able to move from the logical ordering of the subject to the beautiful and winsome expression of the related ideas in the rhetoric stage in high school.
