What a GRAND Grand Days we had this year! In early October, our campus was humming with delight as we welcomed the grand people in our students’ lives to join them in their classrooms for a sweet morning.
The event began with breakfast where our grands got to connect with one another, hear more about our school from Lisa Ann Dillon, our Lower School Director, and buy a few snack cards to gift their grandchildren.
But the main event, of course, was joining their grandkids in their classrooms. Our grands experienced learning firsthand alongside students through activities like carving sculptures out of soap, examining and discussing Renaissance art, creating a sketch of Henry the Navigator, making Where the Wild Things Are crowns and reading Papa Piccolo. For us, Grand Days are one of the most magical events of the school year. See for yourself!
“SLOCA runs like a Swiss watch. All the parts work together to produce a school that hums with academic curiosity and excellence. It’s an investment that not only benefits current students but is sure to impact other generations as well. Grandparents benefit from seeing the learning their grandchildren are obtaining and can only be immensely grateful that their children’s children are receiving gifts to equip them for whatever the future holds.”
Cindy Neuschwander, SLOCA grandparent
“I really enjoyed meeting other grandparents who are passionate about helping their grandchildren get a great start with a solid education. The connections were easy at our table—I even met a near-neighbor! I loved seeing how engaged our granddaughter was in her classroom and “helping” with a craft project. The teachers in the class showed why she loves going to preschool there so much. It was a great day!”
