Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

History Day: Renaissance Wax Museum

We recently held our final History Day of the year: the Renaissance Wax Museum! SLOCA students became a “wax museum” of figures from the Renaissance and Age of Exploration. It was an amazing mash-up of historical figures and literary characters that we have studied over this past school year. This event was not only a visual feast, but also a learning experience for our museum visitors, as each “figure” came to life to recite a short passage detailing who they were. You might get to know a literary character such as Don Quixote, a brave explorer like Magellan, or perhaps a member of royalty like Henry the VIII (and several of his wives). If artists and great minds interest you, there was no shortage of interesting figures to visit…da Vinci, Sofonisba, Botticelli, Luther, Vivaldi…the list goes on! One thing was certain, this History Day was a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore, solidify, and enjoy their learnings from this year alongside family and friends. From primary through high school, it was a meaningful way for our community to close out the 23/24 school year.

Enjoy these beautiful photos that captured some of the fun!
