SLOCA parent Robin Lee share’s today’s Magical Moment, in which many of us participated! Robin and her husband Carl have two daughters at the school, Reagan (HS) and Ryan (Primary, Track B). This is their 4th year at SLO Classical Academy.
Gathering is good.
In this fast paced life of a SLOCA family, it can be too easy to forget to come together just to enjoy one another, can't it? On September 5th, we did just that at Cuesta Park and it was great!
A few of our dads bbq'd chicken legs, thighs and hot dogs, and each family brought food for a potluck. Everyone brought their own drinks.
Parents sat on blankets, at tables, and on lawn chairs eating and drinking beer, wine, sodas or water, while the kids played on the playground, bounced in the Medieval house made of rubber, and ran around. It was fun and relaxing. Both TRACK A and TRACK B families gathered, and high school kids sat in a circle chatting away. Well over 200 people came. We learned the names of people we didn't know before.

It was a fantastic way to start the year, and an important reminder to all:
If you desire more community in your school experience, you need to calendar it in!
If the laughter at the park was any indication, our children love being together. Pick up the phone, send out an e-mail, invite some people to spend time outside. Bring pizza and slice some apples–keep it simple–and enjoy the rewards it will bring. Just like the work of cooking for a couple hundred led to a really fun evening for the school, gathering in your world will also enhance your school life!
