As one reader recently commented, it sure is fun to see the “nitty gritty details” of a fellow SLOCA family’s homeschooling day! So once again we bring you a typical day in the life, this time from the Dahl Family. Wendy and Patrick Dahl are a Track B family in their third year at SLOCA. Their son Christopher is in LMS with Mr. Stavros. This is the first year that dad Patrick has had the opportunity to homeschool. (“Yay!” says mom Wendy!)
Mom Wendy reporting first:
8-8:13 am
Hot breakfast (made by dad, the earlier riser)
8:14
Math with Mom

He brings our cat to do math in his lap.
8:27
Up for a tissue and drink of water.
8:33
Asks question about writing assignment on grid (while doing math).
8:41
I'm up to make a soup for later (and to encourage independent work).

He's up to stretch his back.

I get ready for work, Daddy takes over.
Dad Patrick reporting from here:
11:03
“Are you done correcting your math?”
“Yes”
“Where are you going?”
“To get Pepe” (the cat)
“Get back here you still did not do it correctly. Please, let’s work on not rushing it.”
11:14
(working on IEW)
“I would like you to get the dictionary and find the meaning and spelling of those words.”
11:15
“Where are you???” (Sometimes Christopher leaves the table without notice.)
11:26
“Not ‘poo’, you are looking for ‘through’ and no, I do not recall ever looking up poop in the
dictionary.”
Up for another snack/lunch.
11:40
Spelling corrections complete, yeah! Now the cat is brought back to the room. Time for AEN.
12:24 pm
The Opma Loompa song comes out.

Finally done with school.
Christopher then enjoys some down time relax, to play outside, have some screen time, and snack before extra-curriculars. Today it's Swim Team at 4:30.
Thanks, Wendy and Patrick! It really is an interesting exercise to record all the details of one day of homeschooling. What a great way to preserve a memory from this stage of life. Perhaps you’d like to give it a try sometime, and email Down Home if you want to share yours on the blog!
