San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Cooking in the USA

{source}

Next Monday and Tuesday are holidays, which can be used for E&E time if you so choose. If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, why not combine cooking and geography? Here are a couple of websites that list recipes from all 50 states:

Kids Cooking in the USA – Recipes from all 50 States

Across the Country in 50 State Dishes

So have some fun in the kitchen while reviewing states and capitals, or talking about when the different states were added to the union. Then enjoy eating what you’ve made!

A couple of reminders: Tomorrow is the last day to purchase tickets for the Wild West Extravaganza – you don't want to miss it! Click here to get your tickets now.

And, if you haven't commented on the character trait of the month, check out last Thursday's blog post on Citizenship. Then leave a comment to be entered into this month's drawing for a gift certificate to the school store, which you can use toward gifts, SLOCA swag, or books for next trimester! Drawing ends this Friday.

If you try any of the recipes from the above websites, please come back and comment on what you made:
