Today’s Magical Moment comes from the Bischoff household. Paul and Jenny Bischoff are a track A family with three kids: Kate (UMS), Georgia (Intermediate), and Calvin (Kindergarten). They are in their 7th year at SLOCA, and Jenny wanted to share this math moment:
The other day my third grader, Georgia, was practicing her multiplication flash cards, which is never the highlight of her day and often a dreaded chore. 
Her little brother Calvin was hanging around her, trying to “guess” the answers, and really just distracting her. But before I stepped in to ask him to leave her alone, she came up with a game to include him – she picked up a flash card, thought about the answer for herself, then made up an easy addition or subtraction problem that would have the same answer, and asked Calvin to solve it. So, for example, if the card said 8×3, she would say to Calvin “What’s 22+2?” and he’d excitedly answer “24!” and then she would show him the answer and cheer for him as they both basked in the glow of their superior mental math skills. They had a blast, and even though it wasn’t a fast way to go through math facts, and they didn’t get through all of the cards, it was a joy for me to see them having fun with math and playing together. It was a great homeschooling moment!
