Every year, on the first Friday of September, Mr. Cade Newman, leads our entire Upper Middle School (UMS) class to Vista Lago Adventure Park and Mustang Waterpark. It’s a UMS tradition (and an annual wonder!) to have a teambuilding day designed for UMS students from both tracks to gather, get to know each other better and have a fun day, daring greatly on the ropes course and a blast on the water slides. This year, Mr. Newman was joined by Mr. Isaac Yorke and several of our parents who eagerly joined in to make sure our students were safe and having fun. Based on everyone we spoke with, it was a GIANT success! You will see this in the video below (thank you, Danielle Roberts!). We also have lots of fantastic photos to share so make sure to view those also. (Thank you, Brian McCormac, Talitha Miller and Stephanie Ridley!)
Before we get to the media portion, we asked one of our new-to-UMS families to join us today in sharing about their experience. The McCormacs are a Track B family entering their 8th year at SLOCA. They have 7 children and their 5 oldest are currently enrolled in Junior K, Primary, Intermediate, LMS and UMS.
Below are the wonders that Brian (dad) and Bryent (oldest son) wanted to share:
It was a great experience to spend the day out at the ropes and zip line course in Lopez Lake with UMS. This was the first time I had been to the Lake so I was uncertain on how it would all work out. It was neat to see the encouragement the UMS students were giving one another. Some students were stepping way out of their comfort zone and daring bravely and others seemed like it was just another day playing at a local park. It confirms what a great community SLOCA is in the amount of kindness, and respect each and every one of the students showed each other. Looking forward to next year! -Brian
When I heard that I had an option to partake in the UMS leadership day, I knew I wanted to go. I also had a lot of questions on what it would be like. It is true, I was a little nervous. After my parents showed me pictures of Lake Lopez ropes and zip line course in Arroyo Grande, I thought the day wouldn’t be so frightening. Once I had arrived to the course and heard that it was 30 feet high, the nerves kicked in again. Thankfully, when I began the courses I realized that it was super fun and rewarding. It was my first time doing anything like this. It was such a great experience! I can’t wait to go again next year with my class and the new incoming 6th graders. I bet you will like it as much as I did. -Bryent
We are so proud of you, Bryent! Thank you guys for sharing!
Next up are some photos and a fun video put together by our UMS parents. Enjoy!!
