The “Summer Slide”

Happy Monday, everyone! It’s the last week of school!! As we prepare to close out this year, we want to send you off with some tools and tips to help usher you into this much anticipated season for any homeschooler.

Today is all about motivation. Have you heard of the “Summer Slide?”  It’s definitely NOT the kind at an amusement park! We recently received a resource email from the spelling curriculum program that SLOCA uses and they provided some great tips on how to prevent this so-called slide.

The summer slide is a decline in reading ability and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn’t in session.”

Some of us already do this but in case you didn’t know, the secret to preventing the summer slide is…..keep learning all summer long! No, we don’t mean you write your own grids and have your students spend hours at a table working on their math facts or spelling dictation. We’re talking about incorporating learning into your summer days! Below is an infographic that will give you a visual idea of what we mean.
