Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Friday Faces: Tiny Wonders (Part Two)

Happy Friday and welcome to November!

The days and nights are getting cooler and dare we say it, it is really starting to feel like fall (well a California fall that is). We are starting off this fresh, crisp new month with another Friday Faces. It takes so many caring people to serve our littlest learners in the Tiny Wonders program that we split them into two posts. If you missed last week’s, check it out here!

Without further ado, here is the rest of our tremendous Tiny Wonders Staff!

What is your favorite edible treat?

  • Carina: Brownies
  • Holly: Sushi
  • Lareina: Baby bells, or something with hummus, and every once in awhile a cupcake.
  • Mikayla: Chips and queso!
  • Chelsea: My mom’s lemon bars.

Name a person you have always wanted to meet and tell us why.

  • Carina: My grandfather. He passed away before I was born.
  • Holly: Brene Brown, I love her ted talks on vulnerability. She has done a lot of research about why we need to know we are worthy of love in order to be vulnerable. Her book Braving the Wilderness and the Gifts of Imperfection is very relatable for most people and I would love to pick her brain about her research.
  • Lareina: Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He lived and witnessed hard times, but always found and wrote about hopeful love.
  • Mikayla: I would love to talk to Esther from the Bible and hear about her life. Her story is so incredible and she was so brave!
  • Chelsea: I would love to hang out with Paul McCartney and pick his brain about his days as a Beatle.

What is one thing you wish people knew about you?

  • Carina: I have a phobia of mice.
  • Holly: I love getting hand-picked flowers!
  • Lareina: People are welcome to know what they want.
  • Mikayla: I really love queso and am so sad that it isn’t a “thing” in California! Oh, I moved here from Kentucky this past January – that’s worth mentioning too!
  • Chelsea: I wish people knew that I can’t say no to a swim in the ocean.

What part of your day do you look forward to the most?

  • Carina: Getting home to my family after work.
  • Holly: Getting to come home and cook dinner with my sweetheart.
  • Lareina: The moment I find peace, whether it’s in the eyes of a little one, a stranger, or within.
  • Mikayla: Going home to my husband each day! He is my best friend and the person I most enjoy spending time with.
  • Chelsea: My favorite part of the day is when I get to snuggle and read stories with my baby girl.

Be sure to say “hi” to these fabulous ladies if you see them around campus. And just a friendly reminder — Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. Set those clocks back an hour, unless you really love being early to things!
