Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Senior Projects: Owen Lacey

It is Wednesday again and we are continuing to highlight our seniors and their senior projects. Today, Owen Lacey shares with us his creative project. Check it out!

Owen Lacey: How Video Games Can Develop Logical Skills in Classical Education

My project is on how video games can be used in classical education. I researched how classical education works, and how video games fit into that model, and then how video games have been used in education before. After doing all the research, I decided to try and make a game of my own. I used Minecraft to build a puzzle-solving game intended to be similar to Myst, and while I wasn’t able to complete very much of it, I think the part I have turned out well. These are some pictures of what I built.

Wow! What parent doesn’t love the combination of quality education with a game their kids will enjoy? Thanks for sharing with us, Owen.
