Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Colonial America

Hello — how was your first week back to school? Did it feel kinda rough or was it just nice to return to some familiar routines (perhaps, with some adjustments)? Well, either way, we hope you are ready for week two. Before we jump into the Mix-Ins for Monday we wanted to remind you about the History Experience Zoom Webinar happening this Tuesday night 9/29. This is a night not to be missed, and not just because it is required for parents of students Primary – UMS, but because it is an opportunity to learn about what is ahead this year in history, and it is fun! See your Bear Necessities for more information and don’t forget to register.

And now for our first official Mix-ins for Monday.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Mix-ins are meant to simply be an enrichment resource, they are not required. Pick and choose each week what you want to use on your home days.
  • Although Primary – UMS follow the same History Track, what is being taught in each grade level may differ week by week. Here at Down Home, we do our best to hit all the featured people & events, but there may be weeks where what is being focused on in your student’s grade level is not highlighted in the Mix-ins. If a certain week does not have Mix-ins for what your student is learning here are some options: have fun seeing what the other grades are learning, check previous weeks for any Mix-ins you may have missed, and keep an eye out for upcoming Mix-ins that align with your student’s grade level.
  • Each of the links and videos shared are carefully selected by Down Home, however, we strongly encourage home educators to preview the material before sharing it with your students.
