Are you a parent who is wondering how to get those 15 volunteer hours in this last trimester? Here at SLO Classical Academy, we deeply appreciate and rely on all the parent volunteer hours that are generously given to help keep our school running smoothly. We know it can be tough to get out of the house when you have younger children, but even families with little ones can get involved with a little creativity.
Today we’ve compiled a list of ideas for fulfilling those volunteer hours – some of these will be good reminders, and maybe there are a few suggestions here that you hadn’t thought of before. (You can hang onto this list for next year, too!) So take a look and decide how you can best pitch in and contribute to our wonderful community:
- Playground help! (younger siblings are welcome)
- More playground help!
- Attend parent trainings – you get double the hours (for one parent) for attending history/literature trainings! (No hours are given for mandatory math and IEW trainings.)
- Help at our Children's Day in the Plaza booth on April 13th – we need volunteers! Contact Denise Indvik or Meredith Eades to sign up.
- Help at our Farmer's Market booth (leave the kids with dad). This year we are covered but keep this in mind for next year!
- Help with and attend Parent Preview nights.
- Bake for events.
-
Volunteer in the classroom.
- Ask teachers for jobs you can do at home.
-
Make play dough and other activities, possibly some sewing, for our preschool. Email Merideth Eades for info.
- Weed the planters (little ones can help).
- Help with history day.
- Help with cleaning around the offices – we need a cleaning team! For example, our refrigerators could use some cleaning out (younger ones can come with you).
- Provide food for our teacher lunches – email Julie Campbell, our Friday NOL, for info.
- Help organize the back office area (email Cozy Faber).
- Help set up the office once a month for a campus tour (make coffee, get the snacks set up… younger kids can be with you).
- Join the Community Outreach committee – the meetings are kid-friendly, usually happening outside or in the library where little ones can play. Cozy will be building up this committee toward the end of this year with next year in mind, so email Cozy if you’re interested and she’ll be in touch!
As always, keep an eye on the update volunteer section, and email [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to volunteer for any of the above jobs. Thank you for your volunteer time!
