Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Freebie in SLO County! – idea #14 – Farmer’s Market

{photo by Melissa}

“He who distinguishes the true savor of his food can never be a glutton;”

-Henry David Thoreau

We are so fortunate to have an abundance of food markets in our area selling directly to consumers. The availability of fresh, seasonal produce with all the ripe and sustainable fruits and vegetables (among other products) right in our backyard is certainly something to search out for. Speaking of backyards, we know many of you already have thriving gardens but for some of us who do not, having access to a local farmer’s market is the next best thing.

So, for our Freebie in SLO County! idea today, why not check out your local Farmer’s Market? Downtown SLO has theirs on Thursdays and you can take the whole family, enjoy the beautiful sights the market has to offer, listen and dance along to the local bands performing in the streets and test out some of the savory samples that vendors are eager to hand out!

Below is a sample of what you can find at the Morro Bay farmers market, carefully chosen by 3 young boys…
