Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Wednesday Wonders: A Brutus Moment

For our last 2017-2018 wonder moment, we sure got a good chuckle out of this fun story from an anonymous SLOCA family, and we think you will too. It’s a fitting way to end the school year!:

This past weekend my fifth grader faced a dilemma. He had two big commitments going on at the same time and the morning of, he began to doubt his previous decision to attend one over the other. He was quite distraught so he chose to speak with his dad and me separately so that we could help talk things out. I gave him my opinion on what I thought he should do. My husband remained neutral. So, after much deliberation, he came to me with his final decision which was opposite of what I suggested but quickly stated he was confident in his choice, adding, “It’s not that I love Caesar less, it’s that I love Rome more.” Ah, he had me there! We laughed, I gave him a high five, and sent him on his way to his new commitment.

To see my son apply what he’s learned in an appropriate and persuasive way is so very rewarding. And entertaining. Thank you, SLOCA.

Ha! The things SLOCA kids say… keep learning and laughing this summer, everyone!
