Most Fridays, as part of SLOCA's academy club program, Mr. Rich Bartel can be found living the SLOCA mission on the archery field: forging character, sharing his knowledge and passion for archery, and building the community of SLO county archers. On March 17th, four local archery clubs participated in a USA Archery Junior Olympic Archery Development tournament: Alliance Archery, Central Coast Archery, NCCS Archery, and SLOCA Archery.
Forty-five archers competed in twelve different divisions, including nine SLOCA students: Wyatt Stapp (Intermediate, Track A), Mason Banys (Intermediate, Track B), Gabe Cortez (Intermediate, Track B), David Walz (LMS, Track A), Daniel Talley (LMS, Track A), Piper Banys (LMS, Track B), Amy Becker (UMS, Track B), Landon Kwaitek (UMS, Track B), and Isaac Stanton (SLOCA HS, Freshman). These kids shot 36 arrows (plus warm-up rounds) over the course of 2 hours while showing great determination, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit. They proudly came away from the tournament with six medals:
1st Place Female Cub Barebow: Piper Banys
1st Place Male Cub Olympic Recurve: David Walz
1st Place Male Cub Sighted Compound: Wyatt Stapp
2nd Place Male Cub Olympic Recurve: Daniel Talley
3rd Place Female Youth Barebow: Amy Becker
3rd Place Male Sighted Compound: Isaac Stanton
Once again our students competed well at this annual event. Congratulations to Mr. Bartel and his SLOCA archers! Thank you for coaching and mentoring these students, Mr. Bartel – we are so grateful that you share your expertise and passion for archery here at SLOCA!
Their next tournament is scheduled for June 2nd in Santa Maria.
