Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

“Art takes nature as its model.”

Is nature calling you this weekend? Answer it and see what the outdoors has to offer. You can even turn a family nature walk into a second fun activity when you get home – nature art! Here are a few resources with wonderful nature-inspired art and craft ideas:

Enjoy some fresh air and time with loved ones this weekend!

Here are a couple of fun events coming up that we thought some of our families might enjoy:

78th Annual Poly Royal Rodeo – Friday, April 13th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, April 14th at 5:30 pm. Friday night is Family Night and kids 10 and under are free at the gate in General Admission sections. On Saturday, only kids 2 and under can get in free. Click the link provided for more info and tickets.

There's also the Truck and Tractor Pull on April 14th, 1:00 pm start time, gates open at 12:00 pm. This Cal Poly tradition shows off the school’s tractor innovation skills and showcases a unique form of entertainment. Wondering what a tractor pull is exactly? According to this article in the Mustang News, this is what you can expect:

“A rigged-up tractor (not your ordinary tractor) is hooked to a sled… As the tractor pulls the sled down the track, a weight on the sled moves forward, causing the sled to go deeper into the ground, which makes it heavier for the tractor to pull. The goal is to see who can get the farthest down the track.”

Family Day at the PAC – Saturday, April 21st, doors open at 2:00 pm. A FREE event featuring crafts, activities, and entertainment for the whole family. Click the link provided for info and to reserve your free tickets.
