“We are all failures – at least the best of us are.”
~ J.M. Barrie
It’s Friday, and we just want to take a moment to applaud our SLOCA parents who are “all in” despite mistakes and setbacks. As Theodore Roosevelt so eloquently stated, the credit belongs to you – the ones in the arena. The SLOCA life can be challenging (life in general can be challenging!), but we want you to know that we love being in this together with you, and we appreciate those of you who have been willing to share an inglorious moment here on the blog.
Today we have another daring contributor – here’s Track A mom Jeannett Gibson:
I run the social media channels for SLOCA (think: Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest), so I'm responsible for capturing a few photos and sharing them online. My son plays LMS basketball, and at one point in the game, I realized I should probably snap a picture for the Insta feed. So, I pulled my phone out of my purse…for the FIRST AND ONLY TIME the entire game…snapped a photo and figured I'd quickly post it to IG before I forgot or it got too late. As I was selecting my filter, I heard a whoop and a holler and another mom ran up to me yelling “Did you see that?! Henry just made a basket! It was a perfect swish!!!!”
Cue a wild mix of sheer embarrassment (what was I? 16 years old and addicted to technology?!), deep disappointment (I can't believe I missed it!), and a heaping dose of Mom Shame ( <— yes, that's capitalized. On purpose. I do believe it is a proper pronoun and a real thing, thankyouverymuch).
Of all the cotton pickin' times to be looking at my stinkin' phone, it was the first and only (so far) basket my own kid had made all season long…and my face was in my phone!!!
And for those of you wondering…when he excitedly ran up, in all his sweaty, stinky glory and asked if I saw his shot, I beamed “YES! It was amazing!!! Great job, Buddy!”
Because that's what moms do.
Another very relatable moment! Thanks for sharing this, Jeannett. Congrats to Henry! (And great photo, by the way…) We’d love to hear more stories like these – parents, take the dare and Send your Friday Flop to Down Home!
