“The best thing to spend on your children is your time.“
~Louise Hart
We loved sharing about SLOCA student performances last fall, and we want to continue this on Fridays! What are your kids into outside of SLOCA? How and where are they following their dreams, developing skills, and sharing them with the community?
We want to support our fellow SLOCA kids in their other pursuits when possible. Please email Down Home and let us know when your student will be in a musical performance, a play, a dance, a photography or art exhibit, or any other type of show/performance/event that the public can attend. It’s another way we can do life together and support our school community, plus it’s fun to see what our kids are up to!
Speaking of school community, here's an upcoming event that is on campus next week:
Poetry Out Loud – Tuesday, Jan 24th at 7 pm in the MPR. This is a nation-wide poetry recitation contest sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. SLOCA participated last year and it was fantastic! Mr. McCullough, our SLOCA High School Engligh teacher, encouraged the students last year with the words “I promise you, dear students, that your lives will be fuller, wider, steadier if you graduate knowing a dozen poems as intimately as your own heartbeat.” Come out and support our high school students who are not only taking this challenge seriously, but are willing to recite in front of an audience! The winner of our school competition will go on to represent SLOCA at the county level.
Remember our commitment to Free by Five and spend some precious time with your family this weekend, away from technology when possible… we can do this!
