During the fall trimester our middle school girls volleyball teams enjoyed a fantastic season of growth and skill-building, bonded together as teams, and even won several games! We are proud of these girls on many levels, and wanted to share with you a few inspiring comments from parent coach, Lindsey Cheney:
Our LMS team did really well as far as growth. There were oftentimes not even enough players to make up a whole team, but they played their hardest. This team was made up of 5th and 6th grade girls, many of whom had never played volleyball before. They played against teams that were all at least 6th graders, and sometimes had the older girls on them as well. They definitely were the youngest team in the league, but that didn't keep their spirits down. Cheering each other on and encouraging one another continuously, they set a great example for the UMS team.
The UMS team had a mix of experienced girls and newcomers to the sport. We also had a HUGE team! It was great to see the girls all work hard to learn new skills and mostly to encourage each other. Our team did really well in the league, taking 3rd overall. The UMS team did a great job of encouraging the LMS team, during practice and games, and the LMS team was the loudest cheering section for the UMS team!
After one of our games against Lillian Larsen in San Miguel, their coach said he believed our team was the most improved in the league. He also said he loved how the girls treated each other kindly on the court as well as the opposing team.
Thanks, Lindsey! It was so sweet to watch these girls play this season, and we are deeply thankful for our coaches and an Athletics program which encourages growth in character as well as skills.
