Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Friday Faces: Look and Find… Little Wonders

Welcome to another year of our always popular blog series, Friday Faces! This year, we are putting a twist on this way of introducing our teachers and staff. We now have an incredible page of staff bios on our school website, so instead of reproducing that same info here on the blog, we’ve created a little game for you!

Every Friday Down Home will give you hints about several members of Team SLOCA, and you’ll have to read our staff bios to figure out who each person is. We won’t make it TOO hard on you… all the hints given here are indeed part of the bios (many taken word for word), we will still group the teachers by level, and we've even decided to list their names each week so you can match them with their clues. You may have to do a little hunting around in their bios though… hence the name of the series, Look and Find. Eventually, you will read every Team SLOCA member’s bio, and you’ll be so glad you did!

We challenge you to list your guesses/answers in the comments below!  If you know the teachers pretty well, you might be able to guess who it is before you read their bios…

Let’s get right to it. Today’s group is our Little Wonders crew – these are the teachers in Preschool, Jr. Kindergarten, and Kindergarten. Here’s the link to the Staff Bio page again. Can you look and find out who the following are? Here are the names to choose from:

April Bodine
Amy Houser
Sarah Root
Amy Turner
Jessica Wilson

1. This teacher was raised locally. She started collecting classic picture books in high school for her “someday students and someday children.” She wants to learn to quilt and to create a beautiful, keepsake quilt using the baby clothes all her boys have worn that have memories tied to them.

2. This colorful teacher grew up in North Hollywood at the time when the term “valley girl” was en vogue. Her desire to learn was fueled in part by the Little House on the Prairie series. One of her goals is to learn to play the washboard.

3. This NEW to SLOCA teacher started as a SLOCA parent last year. She grew up in Morro Bay, and she was already thinking in the 5th grade about what kind of teacher she wanted to be.

4. This teacher discovered her love of learning at the hands of her kindergarten teacher, which gave her a heart for young children. She worked as a reading tutor before coming to SLOCA. One of her upcoming projects is to tile her bathroom and she is determined to do it herself!

5. This teacher grew up in Oregon. She developed a fascination in anatomy, and used to look forward to dissecting days in high school. She hopes to improve her guitar skills in the years ahead.

Good luck! And enjoy learning about all the wonderful staff serving our youngest students. They are a great bunch!

Leave your answers below, numbered accordingly. Next Friday we will post the answers to this week’s hunt…
