Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Semper discentes—always learning together.

Wednesday Wonders Wanted!

Another photo from our most recent Work Day – one of our annual wonders!
{photo by Katie Erb, SLOCA high school sophomore}

It’s easy to remember what’s going to be on the blog on Wednesdays: Wonders! We love to highlight moments of wonder that happen both on campus and at home. Think of these as memorable experiences, both big and small, that cause us to pause and reflect, or smile and appreciate, or jump for joy!

Examples might be a homeschool victory when progress happens with a difficult subject, or when a child’s imagination is sparked, or when a new connection is made, or when WE discover something that we didn’t know through this process of learning alongside our kids. On campus, it could be a special project or simulation in class that the kids really got into, an instance when SLOCA character traits were demonstrated, or a meaningful Socratic discussion that blew the teacher away… you get the idea. We will also highlight times when we get together as a school community and make magical memories, like History Day. There are endless opportunities!

This is where you can get involved! Our community grows closer and stronger when we share our small victories (and struggles… more on that another day!). Please keep the blog in mind when you have one of these moments of wonder at home (maybe even from your first home day this week?), and send us an email telling us about it! We would love to share more home wonders on the blog this year.
