It’s our last official week of summer (sorry to say it out loud). But we hope you’ve had a restful, enjoyable season and we are absolutely excited for our new year of learning together! As we wrap up our summertime activities this week, we want to know if your family has any end-of-summer or back-to-school traditions?
There are certainly many fun ideas online if you want to start a new one. We’ve even shared back-to-school traditions here at Down Home in the past.
Here’s another idea: End of Summer Awards, which we found on Mom.me. The idea is to wrap up summer with an Awards Dinner, during which each child gets some small award that reflects a particular accomplishment or growth over the summer. Parenting expert and psychologist Susan Newman (author of Little Things Long Remembered: Making Your Children Feel Special Everyday) offers these examples: “Maybe a new book for the child who reads the most, a bathtub toy for the best swimmer. All ages, from toddlers to teenagers, love this.”
You get the idea. What a fun tradition to start! We’d love to hear what your family does – leave a comment below with your end-of-summer or back-to-school traditions! And make the most of the coming week…
