“One can acquire everything in solitude except character.”
~Henri-Marie Beyle (Stendhal)
Happy Independence Day! It may be a national holiday but Down Home is back today and ready to begin our summer blog series. We hope you’re celebrating the birth of our nation with loved ones, while looking forward to studying this time period in the fall!
The above quote provides a nice transition between last year’s focus (Character) and the coming school year’s (Community). Since we will be exploring the idea of “life together,” we want that to be our theme for the blog this summer as well. An important part of being “a community that forges character” is the community!
So this summer, Down Home wants to help you embrace life together with your people, including your family, friends, our SLOCA community, and the greater local community. Check in with the blog every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for fun family time ideas, ways to nurture friendships, SLOCA events and photos, and other local happenings. Summer fun, with a community mindset!
And now, to start us off on this series, let’s look back at our most recent all-school-community gathering: History Day! We’ve got tons of photos to share. When you look at these photos, aren’t you once again amazed and encouraged by this SLOCA community? It was an incredible event, and could only have been accomplished by a dedicated group of people working together to bring learning to life for our kids. Thank you to everyone who made this happen, and to all the SLOCA kids who wrote speeches, memorized them, and played their parts so wonderfully!
