Are you glad it's Friday?
Occasionally we like to share interesting articles on Fridays, as “food for thought” for this (hopefully) slightly slower-paced day. Today we have an inspiring essay to share written by David Brooks from The New York Times – one that relates to depth of character. Whether you agree with everything he has to say or not, this can certainly spark a thoughtful conversation in your family. And it's yet another reminder of why part of SLOCA’s mission is to be a community that forges character:
The Moral Bucket List
And here are a few local events and activities happening this weekend:
- 9th Annual Model Railroad Day – Saturday and Sunday, January 30-31, 10am – 4pm both days, at the historic Oceano Depot. Local train buffs, modelers, historians and kids of all ages are encouraged to attend this year's Model Railroad Day celebration. The San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Association (SLOMRA) will display a wide variety of operating model trains and the entire Depot will be open to display its unique artifacts from Oceano and the adjacent railroad.
- Art Center Activity: Beaded Tree Branch – All weekend at the SLO Children’s Museum. If you visit the museum, come by the art center to choose a branch, stand it in a ball of clay, and slip pony beads over the branch ends to create a jazzy little tree. Free with price of admission. Visit www.slocm.org for info about the museum.
- Marine Touch Tanks – Saturday, January 30, 10:30am-12pm in the SLO Library Community Room. A wonderful educational program of aquatic displays and marine touch tanks to introduce children and adults to this exciting marine environment! Shark tanks, flat fish tanks, kelp tanks, octopus tanks and more will be on display.
