Happy Friday!
Here's a timely item to share, for those who heard Andrew Pudewa speak last night – below is a link to an article from Inc. Magazine about the many benefits of studying Latin. It’s always interesting to see content related to classical education pop up in the news or business world, so here's something enticing to read, ponder, and share over the weekend. (Thank you to Cade Newman and Pam Gerhardt, for bringing this to our attention!):
Why We Should All Learn to Speak Latin
Here's an encouraging and thoughtful quote from the editorial:
“I'd much rather hire a great thinker who has never studied business than a business major who never learned to think well.”

Here are a few community events happening this weekend, if you want to try an outing with the family:
- 2nd Saturday Matinee at the Nipomo Library – Enjoy a popular, or educational film on the 2nd Saturday of each month (that's tomorrow, January 9th) at 10:30am.
- Maya Forest Garden at the SLO Botanical Garden – Discover the hidden secrets of the tropic rainforest with Archaeologist Dr. Anabel Ford on Saturday, January 9th from 1pm-2pm, followed by a docent-led tour of the garden. Presentation is $5 for members, $10 for non-members.
- SLO Symphony Musical Petting Zoo at the Arroyo Grande Library – Kids of all ages are invited to hear and play instruments from the SLO Symphony. Saturday, January 9th, from 2-2:45pm.
- Star Gazing Party – What a cool way to reinforce our Astronomy unit in science (and get E&E hours!). The Central Coast Astronomical Society holds several Dark Sky Star Gazing parties each year, and the next one is tomorrow night, January 9th, weather permittlng. There are now TWO locations to meet – one in north county and one in south county. Astronomers and telescopes will be at both sites. Check the CCAS website before you go, if weather may be an issue. They will have a “go” or “no go”alert on their site.
- Mark Twain Tonight at the Cal Poly PAC – This is somewhat last-minute, but if you're interested in seeing this one-man show about Mark Twain, there may still be ticket available! Saturday, January 9th at 8pm.
Have an excellent weekend!
