Hooray for Friday! To help with our weekly encouragement to set aside some tech-free time this weekend, let’s introduce our character trait for the month of February, which is Diligence:
Committing to doing tasks with excellence and persevering with determination and patience to complete tasks in spite of difficulties and discouragement.
Catch phrase: Do your best; don't give up!
Here's a character trait that applies to almost every area of life! Much like the knights of Medieval times who diligently pursued excellence in their training and in their defense of the land, we must also diligently commit to anything we want to accomplish.
I don’t know about you, but committing to put our devices away and spend quality time together as a family every week, while rewarding and often lovely, can also sometimes be difficult and discouraging! Diligence is most certainly required in this ongoing endeavor to make family time a priority. Even when we’re not as consistent as we’d like to be, let’s remember to be patiently determined, to keep doing our best, and not to give up!
Here are a couple of inspiring quotes to ponder and/or print out and put up in your home, if you'd like:
Diligence is the mother of good fortune, and idleness, its opposite, never brought a man to the goal of any of his best wishes.
~Miguel de Cervantes
What we hope ever to do with ease, we must first learn to do with diligence.
~Samuel Johnson
