For the month of December, our character trait to focus on is Resourcefulness:
To act effectively and imaginatively, to use information and available resources wisely and efficiently.
Catch phrase: You can figure this out!
The holiday season is upon us, and what better time to help our children be resourceful? Kids often don’t have a lot of money to spend on gifts, and hand made gifts, ornaments, and home decorations are usually the most precious and treasured, after all. (We just have to let go of perfectionism, right?) To get you started, here's a link for cute ideas on gifts that kids (and grown ups too!) can make for family members, friends, teachers, or anyone special. Post your own ideas/links in the comments below!

And speaking of the holidays, there’s always a lot going on in our county at this time of year, and if you want to see all the family-friendly holiday events and activities coming up this month, click here for the Tribune's holiday events guide, or try the free SLO Happenings moblie app.
One more thing we should mention since we’re talking about Resourcefulness this month – shopping at Fred and Betty’s for holiday gifts and decor is a very resourceful way to reuse, recycle, save money, and help our school! Keep Fred and Betty’s in mind when you’re on the hunt for unique and resourceful ideas.
And speaking of shopping, let us remind you that Fred and Betty's will be hosting a Holiday Shopping Party at HumanKind Fair Trade store in downtown SLO, on Thursday, December 11 from 5-8pm.
Twenty percent of the profits will be donated to SLOCA! Please join us for refreshments, and a little holiday shopping. Don't forget to invite your friends – the more we shop the more donations we raise for our school! This is a great way for Fred and Betty's to integrate with other local non-profits while raising awareness and funds for SLOCA. Put it on your calendar today…
Have a fantastic weekend – we wish you success with being Free by Five, and stepping away from the electronics for a while to connect face-to-face with your amazing family!
