If you haven’t already heard, Bill Deresiewicz is coming to SLOCA on March 7th! Before his visit, we have organized a book discussion, coined Disrupt the Herd on January 17th, from 7:00- 8:30 pm. Join us for a night discussing the herd mentality overwhelming our education system; look forward to a great discussion as well as a wine and cheese pairing from Opolo Vineyards. We will have a discussion led by Paul McCullough on Bill Deresiewicz’s book, Excellent Sheep.
Paul McCullough has been teaching literature at SLOCA High School since the fall of 2015, after nearly a decade of semi-nomadic graduate study and teaching gigs. He studied literature at the University of Iowa and theology at Yale University, and then taught at Longwood University in Prince Edward County, VA, and at the Westover School in Middlebury, CT.
William Deresiewicz is an award-winning essayist and critic, a frequent college speaker, and the best-selling author of Excellent Sheep: The Miseducation of the American Elite and the Way to a Meaningful Life. He was a professor of English at Yale for ten years and a graduate instructor at Columbia for five. His essay “The Disadvantages of an Elite Education” has been viewed over one million times online.
