UMS Science Teacher

Austin, our new Upper Middle School Science and Pre-Algebra teacher, received his Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Biblical Studies at Biola University. He joined us in the Summer of 2022 and loves the student’s passion for seeking truth. He could see that the culture at SLOCA would give him an opportunity to teach the intricacies of science while simultaneously growing in his own love of the subject. Austin appreciates how Classical Education interacts with STEM and especially math and how teaching the students why math works the way it does as opposed to just showing them steps to complete a problem, Classical Mathematics builds their problem solving abilities in almost any setting. His own lifelong passion for learning was sparked when he took Physics in college. His professor taught him in a way which grew his curiosity for even the smallest parts of the world around him. Besides math and science, he loves fishing! Whether it's surf fishing, bass fishing, or fly fishing, he spends as much time as possible on the water. Austin would love to grow in his knowledge of entomology and how different life cycles affect feeding habits of the local marine life.
