GIL BRAGA
High School Spanish Teacher
Gil grew up in Horizonte, Brazil, and before working at SLOCA, was teaching 1st to 8th grade Spanish at St. Patricks School in AG, coaching Girls Varsity Soccer at MCP. He received his BA in Social Communications with an emphasis in Journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais. He still works as a Life Skills Instructor for the YESS program for former foster youth at Cuesta College and he teaches World History and US History for Summer School at Paso Robles HS. At SLOCA, he is our High School Spanish Teacher! He joined the SLOCA team because he was ready to get into a school community that was more focused on the student as a whole human. He really feels like the educational goals of SLOCA match his own views as an educator. The close connections he has already created with his co-workers and students are a bonus! He also loves the creativity and intellectual ability of his students. Besides all his teaching duties, Gil can often be found DJing somewhere in town, playing soccer, hanging out with his son and with his fiancée. He has played soccer his whole life but also always had books to read growing up. He read everything: maps, dictionaries, newspapers, comics, novels, biographies... and as he grew older he joined leadership groups and became passionate about the ideas exchanged in group settings. That all paved his way to fall in love with learning. Now, he wants to start attending teachers conferences in other parts of the country and to eventually become a public speaker on developing life skills and human connections in the classroom.
