Jake Schoonmaker

Jake Schoonmaker is a man of many talents. Growing up, he moved around the country because his father was in the Air Force. His family always maintained roots on the Central Coast, though, and Jake moved back to the area in 2011. He earned his A.A. in History from Cuesta College and his B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSU Chico, and is currently working toward his M.A. in Literacy Education from Arizona State University. Before joining the SLOCA team in 2026, Jake worked as a pastry chef and musician. Now, he's eager to work in the classroom and excited by SLOCA's classical education model, where students across all grade levels study literature through the context of the same historical cycle. In his free time, you can find Jake moonlighting as a guitarist, skateboarding the local parks, or fishing the local pond.
