JOSH ROCHA

High School Teacher

Dr. Joshua Rocha teaches History at SLOCA High School, as well as electives on Oral Rhetoric and Creative Writing. Josh holds a B.A. (Cal, Berkeley), M.A. (CSU Bakersfield) and Ph.D. (UC Santa Barbara), all in History. A native of Bakersfield who most recently taught at Bakersfield College, Josh moved west to the Central Coast in 2021, drawn to SLOCA’s lovely location and classical curriculum—“its humble respect for our shared cultural inheritance,” as he puts it. Josh credits his parents’ support for nurturing his passion for learning, which takes many forms: his future goals include earning his tennis coaching professional certification through the USPTA. However, these days he can most likely and most happily be found spending time with his own growing family.
