MITCHELL REY
High School Student Life Director
Mitchell’s love of learning was first sparked here at SLOCA as an elementary student. That spark continued to grow into a fire as he traveled the world. Playing sports in Brazil, teaching English in South Korea, and playing "tourist" throughout Europe taught Mitchell to never stop learning about culture, values, community, and people. He spent the majority of his career working with college students who did not know themselves, their values, or what they believed in. Now, working at SLOCAHS gives him the opportunity to be proactive in helping students understand who they are and how they fit into the world around them. He loves that SLOCA teaches students to think deeply and to wonder, "why?” pushing students to formulate their own ideas and to not just accept the "norm," even if what is "normal" is easier. Having grown up in Grover Beach, before attending Grand Canyon University for a Bachelor’s in Justice Studies and traveling the world, Mitchell is back on the Central Coast, joining us as the High School Student Life Director. Previously a stay-at-home dad, he can be found spending time with family, playing/watching sports, exploring tech, and searching for good food.
