SAGE RONDA
Primary Art Teacher + Imaginator
Sage has worked at SLOCA in a variety of capacities since college—at Fred and Betty's, as a design intern, and finally, now, in a split position as the art teacher for 1st and 2nd graders and as Design + Marketing Manager. However, her affiliation with (and affection for) the school extends even further back to the days of SLOCA’s inception, when she was a third-grader attending classes in living rooms and garages. Seeing as classical education has been part of her life since near the beginning, she has been inspired by whole books, Socratic discussion, and the commitment to goodness, truth, and beauty to think critically and create with wonder. Even so, she recalls that at first she did NOT want to learn how to read. Yet soon enough, she was not only reading books, but also writing and illustrating her own (mostly starring herself and an entourage of toys and dolls). To this day, she can be found filling her sketchbooks with notes and drawings. She also enjoys taking lots of film photos of places she loves, hanging out with high schoolers at her church, and working her way through an extensive list of films to watch. She is currently learning how to renovate her 1969 Airstream trailer and recently became interested in learning more about Viking art's Great Beast motif.
