Sarita Johnson

Sarita Johnson grew up in the middle of the Mojave Desert, right on Route 66. As a child, she and her sisters spent hours poring over a full set of encyclopedias at home, setting the stage for her lifelong love of learning. She went on to study Early Childhood Education at Ivy Tech State College in Indiana and Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Before joining SLOCA in 2026, she homeschooled her sons and worked for a friend's knitting and sewing business. Sarita first discovered SLOCA around 2012 and was drawn to its classical education approach; even after moving away from the area, its principles — especially the emphasis on history and reading whole books rather than excerpts — shaped her homeschooling for years afterward. In her free time, she hopes to learn Ilokano, her family's language from the Philippines, though lessons can be tricky to find.
