Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Rise of Monasticism + the Byzantine Empire

hagia sophia

Happy Monday! We hope you’ve had a chance to walk through our new website. If not, please make sure to take some time today to look around. Our new site showcases one of our strategic anchors: PURSUE beauty and order in all things. Not only is it beautiful, it is also comprehensive and exhaustive where you can get most, if not all, of your school-related questions answered.

For this week’s Mix-Ins, we have a lot to share with you! Firstly, we are going look into the themes of Philosophy and Religion as we explore the rise of monasticism along with exploring the Byzantine world. We highly encourage you to read through the history overview packet. The packet was sent out in our Bear Necessities email last week. It is rich with information to help with your lessons. You can also find it in the Parent Portal of our website.

Secondly, we are throwing in a couple of level specific resources for those of you studying specific topics. This will include: mapping, Wassily Kandinsky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Metric System and Weather Science. Make sure to check out those links below.

Lastly, if you missed last week’s Mix-In, make sure to read it, as it also includes a brief reminder on the purpose of Monday Mix-Ins. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or if you have any of your own resources you’d like to share with our community!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the links below!
