Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Sports Report: K-4th Basketball

Happy almost weekend, everyone! Today’s post highlights one of SLOCA’s favorite sports league…our Kindergarten through 4th grade co-ed basketball! Our Athletic Director, Mark Nickodemus, has been developing this program for a few years and our students look forward to it every winter.

The K-4th basketball league caters to all experience levels from students who’s never touched a ball to athletes who are extremely coordinated for their age. Our kids are introduced to the world of basketball in a safe and fun environment. Yes, it can still get competitive but the goal for this level is to familiarize them to the team sport, go over basic rules and concepts, and learn key fundamentals…all while having a TON of fun! We want our kids to love sports and based on the giant smiles they had after each game, they are well on their way there! They had a blast!!

Check out these photos and you’ll see what we mean:

Thank you so much, Laura Graham Photography, for these stunning shots!!! AND A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR PARENT COACHES! To Michele Bruntz, Julie Diffenbaugh, Dan Swain, Taylor Bringard, Laura Graham and Josiah Webster…what a fun season! We couldn’t have done it without you! Gooooooo Grizzlies!!
