Happy Friday Down Home readers! Have you heard about the upcoming Wonder Conference? Have you been wondering what it is all about? Betsi Ashby, our Director of Marketing & Merchandising, joins us today to enlighten and excite us about this not-to-be-missed conference. Be sure to check out the Wonder Conference website for more information. (In-depth descriptions of the sessions offered will be available soon.)
The Wisdom Wonder Project is hosting our first-ever Wonder Conference this October––a comprehensive weekend of training for home-educators and education-enthusiasts alike. This conference is for YOU––while also open to the public, we curated sessions based on what our SLOCA parents would benefit from foremost. Exploring and expounding on our theme this year of Less. But Better, it is a weekend of training to make the most of your teaching experience, learn how the teachers do it, and make space to reflect on what’s essential in your life.
For starters, award-winning author, Diane Stanley, will begin with a unique keynote Thursday night up at our high school campus. During this intimate, limited seating evening Diane will share how she altered her future trajectory when she took her very first art class during her senior year in college. From medical illustrator to prolific children’s book author, the story of Diane’s path is sure to inspire. Drinks and snacks will round out the night.
From there, we move into two full days with hands-on sessions for parents at all levels. Led by our teachers, staff, and fellow parents covering topics including Kindergarten-UMS Singapore Math, IEW, Latin, home organization, living a Low Tech life, and capturing your life with haiku.
Other session highlights:
Friday, Diane will also lead sessions on the craft of research, writing, & editing, paving the way for local expert Lea Payne Scott on Saturday to speak on the Whole Brain child, adolescent, and even parent!
Anna Ingalls will share the vision behind her Wonder Boxes, a unique gift that accompanies her interactive literature readings.
Guy Kinnear will cover how Wonder Play works as a lifestyle and will explore how 5 minutes of creative art exploration can be nurtured as an individualized daily practice.
Thaddeus Kozinski will lead you in the art of Socratic seminar by discussing a short reading together.
Engage in a variety of hands-on sessions that hone your educational approach over two days surrounded by like-minded community and enriching workshops with space to reflect. It’s like self-care for the home teacher.
Join us for a weekend that maximizes your home education, engage in wonder, & discover the essence of joyful learning.
Registration prices increase on October 1st––and remember, you get an additional $30 off registration as a SLOCA parent (SLOCA Rewards? even more!).
