Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

New Campus for Our Tiny + Little Wonders

Our littlest SLOCA students have moved across the street! Taking up residence on the old high school campus, our infant/toddler care and preschool have traded out picnic tables and desks for a play structure and cribs. And with five classrooms instead of four, we even have space to accommodate more in Tiny Wonders to help alleviate the impacted childcare in SLO. While we will really miss having them on the main campus, it’s such a joy to watch all these wonders running (and crawling) around in the grass and enjoying their new classrooms in a space that is all their own. But don’t take our word for it—we asked some of the children what their favorite part of the ‘new school’ is and here is what they had to say (well, those that have the words. We did get a few coos and smiles of approval as well):

“Ummm, uhhh, allllllllllllllll of it! Well, actually, the trikes.”

“The kitchen has lots of food I like. And the bikes.”

“The wobbly ladder with the bell.”

“The circle spiderweb swing”

“Playing outside on the grass”

On the new play structure: “I like playing on it. And there’s a little yellow thing that looks like a hot dog is supposed to be inside there but there isn’t one. I’ll show you next time you come.”

Thanks to all the hard-working staff, volunteers, and SLOCA high schoolers who worked over Winter Break to make this a magical space for our teachers and our students. We are so grateful!
