Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Playing with Plays

We have a super fun WONDER for you today!

Did you know that some of our students made it on the local news? March 2nd was Read Across America day and KSBY did a piece on one of our Friday Academy Club instructors, Mr. Brendan Kelso. Mr. Kelso, who is a local author and Playing with Plays company owner, was a successful engineer who left the engineering field in pursuit of his passion for classic literature. His mantra: “Get all kids in the world to like Shakespeare!”

Let’s watch the KSBY segment

Wasn’t that great? If you’d like more information about our Friday Academy Club and Classes, keep your eyes peeled for next week’s Bear Necessities. For our full Friday program families, you will receive a registration link in your emails as soon as it is ready. Thanks for joining us!

  1. That’s so cool! We always love watching the performances Kelso coordinates for our kids. Such talent among the teacher and students – a real treat for us all!

  2. This was so fun seeing Mr. Kelso’s work and this Academy Class on the news! I know Calvin sure loves this class and we are fortunate to have Mr. Kelso teaching and mentoring these students.

  3. Love this! Our kids love Shakespeare and don’t really see it as daunting since we have resources like this.
