Happy Friday! It’s time to pause with us again, and today we encourage you to read for fun this summer, if you aren’t already! We are a community that generally loves to read, so this tip isn’t new or unusual, but rather a reminder to let yourself get lost in a good book. There are times for reading to learn and to grow, but there's also a need to read just for the joy of it, to relax and feel rejuvenated.
Ideas for enjoying a few leisurely reading moments:
- Sip an afternoon cup of tea while reading one of your all-time favorite books again.
- Read outdoors under a tree while the kids play at the park.
- Get away to a coffee shop for an hour to read.
- Allow yourself to indulge in a favorite magazine that you don’t normally have time to peruse.
- Fill the tub for a bubble bath, and soak your cares away while reading a fantastic novel.
If you aren’t in the middle of a great read at the moment and are looking for recommendations, ask your friends or other SLOCA parents about their favorite books. Or check out the yellow Summer Reading handout, which listed a few options, or the High School and Adult Reading list found on the password-protected area of our website. (Email the office for login information if you need it.)
