Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Character Trait for December 2013: Respect

{source}

This is a short month as far as school goes, but we still want to highlight our Character trait for December, which is Respect:

Showing high regard, value and appreciation for authority, others, self and property.

One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.

~Bryant H. McGill

I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.

~ Albert Einstein

Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

~ Benjamin Franklin

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too.

~ Voltaire (1694-1778); Philosopher, Essayist

As we learn about the various world religions in history, we are likely to find many teachable moments to model and encourage respect for others. If you have something to share about nurturing respect in our children, please leave a comment below.
