San Luis Obispo Classical Academy San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Fred and Betty’s Invites You…

{photo by Lillie Lamm}

Our very own Fred and Betty’s Thrift Store is coming up on its One Year Anniversary and you are invited to the party NEXT FRIDAY, October 3rd, from 6-9pm! Not only will this special evening celebrate our first year of business, but the store will also be hosting Art After Dark that evening, and will be open to the public.

There are three ways you can help us make this night a success:

1. Loan us your child’s art!

Being on the Art After Dark map means we need a featured artist for the evening and who better than our very own SLOCA artists?! Our store manager Lillie Lamm and SLOCA art teacher Caroline Vaccaro have arranged for original pieces from students to be on display for the evening. We could use your help with this as well. Any types of art are welcome! Paintings, sketches, ceramics, sculptures etc. As long as its SLOCA made, we want to display it! Submissions can be on loan or donated for us to sell – this can be a fun way for your child like to contribute to our school, by donating their art!

Please contact Lillie at [email protected] if you have any questions or to arrange to loan or donate your art pieces. You can bring them to her at the store, or bring them to school and she can pick them up. We need them at the very latest by Friday morning, Oct. 3rd, but earlier would be preferable. Thank you!

2. Help us prep the store!

We would love to make Fred & Betty’s shine for the party. Do you have any time to spare during the week to help us spruce up the store? Come by Monday – Friday next week from 9 am – 5 pm to help with all the preparations for the event. We deeply appreciate any time you can give, and of course this counts toward your Fred & Betty’s volunteer hours!

3. Come to the party!

Next Friday, October 3rd, from 6-9 pm. Bring your families, bring your friends – we want to thank everyone for a great first year and acknowledge all the hard work so many people have put in to make this year a success. According to the Art After Dark coordinator, October is their biggest month. Hopefully we will have lots of traffic from the public browsing in the store that night. It would be wonderful to have lots of SLOCA families there to answer any questions people might have and provide a strong showing of the SLOCA community!

We hope you can help us make this night amazing, and we hope to see you there! This store is about all of us, and we want you to be a part of the celebration. Thank you SLOCA families, for your support of Fred & Betty’s, which in turn supports and helps our wonderful school thrive!
