Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Magical Moments: sloCAHS First CIF Events

Our athletics program is growing! For those who haven't seen it yet, here's our athletics mission statement:

The mission of athletics at SLO Classical Academy is to complement our educational model by developing the habits, minds, bodies and character of students in a nurturing and challenging context for all that desire to commit to our programs.

Today our Athletics Director David Hazlebeck shares an update on our high school’s first ever CIF volleyball games and cross-country race:

SLO Classical Academy High School (sloCAHS) has had some big changes and big improvements this year regarding athletics. Many of you have heard, but some have not: sloCAHS is now a member of CIF. This means that we can now play other high school teams! There will be six total sports offered at the high school level – one per gender per season.

In the fall, we currently have girls volleyball and boys cross country. The girls playing volleyball this year are Kate Bischoff, Tatum Gleason, Courtney Knecht, Reagan Lee, Brigitte Rein, Cami Smith, Eden Theule, and Sage Theule.

Our girls played the first ever game for sloCAHS on Tuesday, September 9th in a competitive loss to Mission Prep.

But they scored their first win against Shandon last week! The first game was close, barely winning 25-23. The second game was more reflective of the play that day though as our team won 25-8!! Our team hit and set really well, but what made it such a convincing win was the excellent passing and serving! The girls also participated in a tournament at Arroyo Grande High School last Saturday.

The boy’s cross country team ran in the first meet ever for sloCAHS on Saturday, September 13th.

Cormic Calloway set the school record by finishing with a time of 23:59. The other boys on the team this year are Jack Bell, Jonah Bell, and Josh Ronda. They will have at least two more races before the end of the season where they will have a good opportunity to break the school record!

In the winter sloCAHS will offer girls soccer and boys basketball. In the spring we will offer girls swimming and boys volleyball.

Participating in sports at sloCAHS at this time is a huge honor! You can say that you helped start something. You can say that you played in the first games ever for sloCAHS! Win or lose, we are very proud of the students who participate in our athletics program, and who are vital to the continuation of the program. If you see one of our sloCAHS athletes, you should give them a big thank you! Not all of our athletes have been involved with the sport they are playing for years like most other high school athletes, but they are all out there competing and having a good time.

All of the SLOCA and sloCAHS athletics schedules and sign-ups are in the office. Please check these out and find a game that you can come to, and help support our school!  Sign-ups are currently out for winter sports for all ages. Look for spring sign-ups to be out in December.
