Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Wednesday Wonders: Beowulf in Budapest

{photo by Kelly Jenei}

Here’s a letter that was emailed to Mrs. Fragasso by one of her families – Kelly Jenei wrote about this special moment they experienced on vacation, and allowed us to share it on the blog! Kelly and her husband Richard are parents to Cyrus, a Primary student on Track B, and this is their 3rd year at SLO Classical Academy. Thank you for sharing, Kelly!

Hi Melinda,

This summer we were on vacation in Budapest, visiting famous sites, and something happened that made me proud, and really happy that we are a SLOCA family.  We came upon a statue of a man fighting with a five-headed monster, Cy ran up to it and shouted “Mommy, it's Beowulf!”  I thought, this is from a 7 year old, I could hardly believe it.  Just in case you needed to be reminded of the “wonders” and that they are actually paying attention. Thank you for all that you do!

-Kelly

We DO need to be reminded of the wonders, and the more we hear about them around us, the more we tune into them in our own families as well. So keep them coming! Big or small, please email your moments of wonder to Down Home and let's nurture the habit of paying attention to those magical moments!
