Today, our Librarian and School Store Associate Emily Ferrarini brings us a reminder and some helpful tips about Scrip. Perhaps you've forgotten about this option, and would like to start using it. Read on to see how this program can save you money!
Have you heard of Scrip? Did you know that it could help pay your tuition?
Scrip is a company that sells gift cards for fundraising purposes. SLOCA families purchase gift cards to popular retailers at face value, and a percentage of that amount is kicked back to SLOCA. Each participating retailer sets the percentage that they are kicking back, and they range from 1% to 20%.
How does this help pay for your tuition? SLOCA gives 75% of the rebate you earn as a credit towards your Smart Tuition bill. The remaining 25% is used to pay for the software to run the program and for the shipping fees. SLOCA is not making money on Scrip – this is a service offered specifically for our families, so take advantage of it!
In order to make this work for you, it takes a little bit of planning. If you know you are going to be purchasing some new school clothes at Old Navy, why not get a portion of that money to help with your tuition bill? Purchase Old Navy cards online, do the shopping you were already planning on doing, and pay a little less tuition next month! Scrip carries gift cards for hundreds of popular retailers, from grocery stores to hardware stores to gas stations and even hotels. You can use the gift cards whenever and however you like – give them as gifts, use them for your weekly grocery shopping trip, use them to shop online, or use them to pay for home improvement projects! Some retailers even offer online gift cards, so you are able to shop right away with your gift card code. Get grandparents on board – anyone can sign up for a Scrip account, and as long as they enroll through SLOCA and specify which family they’d like to benefit, it can count toward your tuition bill. With a little bit of planning, you can save on your tuition every month.

Once you have created an account, you can start ordering gift cards. You must pay for the cards you order by writing a check to SLOCA, or you can sign up for Presto Pay that links your bank account with Scrip. Orders are placed online. We place a group order for Scrip once a week, so make sure your orders and checks are submitted before Thursday. Physical gift cards will be available for pickup in the school store the following Wednesday.
