Welcome to Down Home, San Luis Obispo Classical Academy’s blog! We are a classical school offering several options to make our education work for families with infants through high schoolers. Our signature hybrid program, which is part-time classroom and part-time home instruction, provides an engaging education for preschool through middle school (with full time options available). We also have a university model high school. This blog is meant to support and encourage on the home front because, in so many ways, the heart of what happens at SLO Classical Academy happens down home.

Mix-ins for Monday: American History Culmination

Happy Father’s Day to all the Papa Bears out there! We have arrived at the final week of school and summer vacay awaits. For our Mix-ins for Monday today we have put together a collection of videos highlighting some of what we have studied this year and some just for fun.

American History Videos:

*Parents, please preview for your students first.

50 States and Capitals Song | Get this catchy song stuck in your head as you learn the states and capitals.

Was MLK’s “I Have A Dream” Speech Improvised? | A short video telling the story of this impactful speech.

Virtual U.S. Capital Tour | Take a tour of our nation’s capital.

“The Hill We Climb” by Amanda Gorman | Our students have studied and memorized many famous American speeches and poems this year. Perhaps someday this poem will be one they memorize too.

Roanoke | A favorite silly video from this year about the lost colony of Roanoke.

Fun:

How to Turn Milk into Stone | Our Primary students did this experiment. Give it a try for some summer entertainment. It only takes 2 simple ingredients.

Sherlock Holmes – The Blue Carbuncle | If your students enjoyed our reading of Sherlock Holmes this last trimester, they may enjoy this short scene from The Blue Carbuncle.
